Martingale Strategy / Double Up System


The Martingale is the most common system that players use. The method is simple – you increase your bets after every consecutive loss and then when you win, you go back to betting the original amount and start over.

Most people use the Martingale on the even chance bets where it’s known as the Double Up System, because you simply double your bets after every loss until you win, at which point you go back to betting the original amount.

The important thing to understand about the Martingale / DoubleUp is that it can increase your chances of winning over the short term by betting big to win small. You will have more winning sessions than losing sessions, but your wins will be small and your losses, while less frequent, will be much bigger.

That is the most common progression that you would use for Red/Black, Under/Over betting. You don’t have to stick to the progression, but you do have to stick to the rule of doubling your last loss bet.

Examples of progression if you lose your bets 10 times a row

1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 - 32 - 64 - 128 - 256 - 512 .

5 - 10 - 20 - 40 - 80 - 160 -320 - 640 - 1280 - 2560 .

7 - 14 - 28 - 56 - 112 - 224 - 448 - 896 - 1792 - 3584 .

So long as you’re doubling your previous bet you’re fine. We would not recommend starting with a high bets, though because as you can see, the higher your starting number, the quicker your bets become too risky. You should always start out with the lowest possible bet.

If you’ve never used or heard of the Martingale system before, here’s exactly how you would use it, using the example of betting on Red. You would start by placing a 1 coin bet on Red, if it loses, you increase your next bet to 2 coins. If this loses, you increase your next bet to 4 coins and so on.  You keep on doubling your bets every time you lose until you win. Then when you get the win, you go back to the starting betting 1 coin again. You don’t have to stick to betting on the same colour / Roll, it’s totally up to you which one you bet on. So long as you keep doubling your bets, you will always be in profit when you get the win.

In the first example we have decided that our bet is 1 coin, We have lost 10 times in a row, adding all the bets placed, we have lost a total of 1023 conis, In the table below you you can see that with one win you go in profit of  +1 coins.

In the table above we placed a total of 20 bets, we have lost 15 bets and we won only 5 bets, in this example we had no luck, anyway even if we took more bets lose, our profit is positive of + 5 points


Alambert Strategy 


The D’Alembert is one of the safest system you can use because while you do increase your bets after a loss, it’s at a much smaller rate than the Martingale. This is an even chance betting system. 

All you do with this system is pick a starting bet, then you increase your bets by one after a loss, and decrease them by one after a win. The theory is that once you have as many wins as losses, you will be in profit by the amount of bets you’ve placed. Let’s go through a quick example starting with a bet of 5:

  • Bet 5 and lose
  • Bet 6 and lose
  • Bet 7 and win
  • Bet 6 and lose
  • Bet 7 and win
  • Bet 6 and win
  • Bet 5 and lose
  • Bet 6 and win

The maths for what we have just done is as follows: 0 – 5 – 6 + 7 – 6 + 7 + 6 – 5 + 6 = 4

In the above sequence, there was 4 losses and 4 wins, but despite this, you are in profit by 4. This is the golden rule with the D’Alembert – If the number of wins is the same as the number of losses, you will always be in profit by the number of bets.

Advantages Of The D’Alembert – I don’t think any roulette strategy can be described as safe because they all carry an element of risk, but this one is about as safe as it gets. 

Disadvantages Of The D’Alembert – The potential winnings are low which is to be expected from a relatively low risk system. You’re also relying on winning as many bets as you lose which isn’t likely to happen over the long term of play.

Another problem the D’Alembert faces is that you can sometimes go on a long losing run where your bets increase a lot. Once this happens, you find yourself in a hole that can only be recovered by going on an equal winning run.

As with all strategies, set your self a stop loss and profit target and stick to it for better or worse.

Fibonacci Strategy


The Fibonacci is an interesting roulette strategy because it’s safer than others such as the Martingale but despite it being safer, there’s still potential for it to win. First thing’s first, the Fibonacci didn’t start out in life as a roulette strategy; it’s a simple Mathematical theory where you start with one and add the two previous numbers together to give you the next number in the sequence. This would be best explained with an example so here is the Fibonacci sequence:

1 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 – 13 – 21 – 34 – 55 – 89 – 144 – 233 – 377 – 610

One thing to keep in mind is that you don’t have to start at 1 if you don’t want to, so long as you add the previous two numbers together to give you the next number you’re fine, for example 233+377 = 610. It is best to start at one though because it’s obviously safer and it’s always best to start out with any system as safe as you can.

So that’s the sequence of numbers out of the way, now let’s get onto how you actually use it. First of all this is an even chance betting system,

As you can probably guess, you start out by betting one and then you work your way through the Fibonacci sequence until you get a win. Now one thing that should hit you instantly is that the maths does not add up to give you a win every time.

In fact, the further through the Fibonacci sequence you get, the more you lose. You are in profit if you win on the first bet, you break even if you win on the second or third bet, anything after that is a loss and the loss gets bigger and bigger.

At this point you’re probably thinking that the Fibonacci is a waste of time and should be avoided, but don’t be too hasty. Here is how you get the most out of the Fibonacci sequence:

Move your way through the sequence until you get a win, like the example below

  • Bet 1 and lose
  • Bet 1 and lose
  • Bet 2 and lose
  • Bet 3 and lose
  • Bet 5 and lose
  • Bet 8 and lose
  • Bet 13 and lose
  • Bet 21 and lose
  • Bet 34 and win

Now once you’ve bet this 34 and won, you move back two numbers in the sequence and bet that number. So your next bet would be 13. You repeat this process over and over until you’re back at the start of the progression – always move back two numbers in the sequence after a win. Here is an extended example to show you how this works, using the above example to begin with:

  • Bet 1 and lose
  • Bet 1 and lose

With the above example, you would have made your way back to the start of the sequence and your profit would have been 1, so in this sense it’s a bit like the Martingale in the fact that once you get back to the start of the sequence, the profit is 1.

The difference between the two is that in the above example, the Fibonacci lost eight bets in a row and the highest bet was 21. If you were using the Martingale, you would have placed a 256 bet and lost so the Fibonacci is unquestionably safer.

Another good thing about the Fibonacci is that in the above example there was 12 losses and 7 wins, but despite this it still came out with a profit. So as you can see, the Fibonacci is one of the better strategies that you can use for even chance betting although it’s obviously not guaranteed to win because nothing is.

Quick Things To Consider When Using The Fibonacci:

At the start of the sequence you can see that there are two number 1s. If you’re moving back in the sequence and you get to the second number 1, bet and win, then move back to the first number one and bet that as well. If you don’t, you will only break even.

Just in case you don’t understand that, here is the second number one, it is in bold: 1 – 1 – 2 – 3

You have to move back to the first number 1 to get your profit, even though moving from the second 1 to the first 1 is only one step back rather than two. That is the only exception to that rule.

Another thing to remember is that it can take a long time to get back to the start of the sequence and during this time you will need to remain patient and stick to the system exactly. If you place the wrong size bet somewhere along the way, the maths will be messed up.

You also need to remember that like all strategies, the Fibonacci is not immune to a long losing run and when this happens you can find yourself in a hole that only a big chunk of luck will pull you out of. For this reason you should set yourself a stop loss limit and stick to it just like you would with any other strategy.


Laubochere Strategy


 The Labouchere is a slightly more complex system that may require some practice to get used to. It’s a system that you dictate the rules for before you start playing. You decide how much you will bet and you decide how long you will play for.

First thing’s first, this is an even chance betting system so it can be used on Red/Black, Odd/Even and 1-18/19-36. It can’t be used elsewhere on the table because the maths wouldn’t add up.

So what you do is construct yourself a “betting line” and the numbers will dictate how much you bet and the length will go some way to dictating how long you will bet. So this is what a simple Labouchere betting line could look like (remember it’s totally up to you).

1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1

That’s a very simple betting line that keeps the bets as low as possible. So once you have your line, you take the number from the left hand side of the line and the number from the right hand side of the line and add them together. This gives you the number that you need to bet.

Using the line above, the left hand number and right hand number added together is 2, so your first bet is 2. If you win, you cross both the left and right hand numbers off your line, so it would now look like this:

1 – 1 – 1 – 1

This is one of the two golden rules with the Labouchere: always cross both left and right hand numbers off your line after a win. Once you’ve crossed the numbers off, you then take the new left and right hand numbers, add them together to give you the next number to bet. You repeat this process until there’s no numbers left in your line. At this point you either quit and walk away, or construct yourself a new line.

What Do You Do After A Loss?

When you lose a bet, you don’t cross any numbers off your line. Instead you add the number that you’ve just bet to the right hand side of your line. So using the above line as an example again, if you lose your first bet of 2, your line would then look like this:

1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2

This is the second golden rule for the Labouchere: always add the number you’ve just bet to the right hand side of the line after a loss and don’t cross any numbers off. Now let’s go through an example of playing through to the end of a betting line. The line we shall use is this slightly more complicated one:

1 – 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 – 2

Bet 1: 1 + 2 = 3 so the bet is 3. We place a bet of 3 and it lost. The line now looks like this:

1 – 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 – 2 – 3

Bet 2: 1 + 3 = 4 so the bet is 4. We place a bet of 4 and it wins. The line now looks like this:

3 – 4 – 2 – 1 – 2

Bet 3: 3 + 2 = 5 so the bet is 5. We place a bet of 5 and it wins. The line now looks like this:

4 – 2 – 1

Bet 4: 4 + 1 = 5 so the bet is 5. We place a bet of 5 and it lost. The line now looks like this:

4 – 2 – 1 – 5

Bet 5: 4 + 5 = 9 so the bet is 9. We place a bet of 9 and it wins. The line now looks like this:

2 – 1

Bet 6: 2 + 1 = 3 so the bet is 3. We place a bet of 3 and it wins. The line has now been completed.

When you get to the end of your betting line your profit will be the total of all the numbers added together from the original betting line. So with the above line that we used, your total win would be as follows:

1 + 3 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 13

It doesn’t matter how many wins or losses you get along the way, so long as you get to the end of your betting line, your profit will be the total of the original betting line added together.

So remember the two golden rules which are:

  • Always cross the numbers from the left and right hand sides off your line after a win.
  • Don’t cross any numbers off and add the number that you’ve just bet to the right hand side after a loss.

Upside To The Labouchere

The maths adds up nicely providing you stick to the system. If you get as many wins as losses without an extended losing run in the middle, you will be in profit.

Downside To The Labouchere

The problem with the Labouchere is that if you experience a losing run, your line will get longer and the amounts that you have to bet will keep creeping up. The only way to get the numbers back down is a winning run. The big downside is that once the bets get big, they stay big until you have a prolonged winning run to bring them back down.
